Prilosec treats various acidĀ related stomach and esophagus problems (GERD, ulcers, heartburn, erosive esophagitis, or ZollingerĀ Ellison Syndrome). Drug UsesPrilosec is used for treatment of various acid related stomach and esophagus problems (for example, GERD, ulcers, erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger Ellison Syndrome). If you suffer from heartburn (and have tried to treating it and changed your diet) Prilosec may be suitable for you. Certain antibiotics (such as amoxicillin, clarithromycin) may be prescribed together with Prevacid when treating certain ulcers. How TakenPrilosec comes as a capsule or tablet. The general dosage is 20mg tablet or capsule, taken once a day (every 24 hours) during 14 days before a meal. Do not take Prilosec for more than 14 days or repeat a 14 day course more often than every 4 months. For best effect swallow the capsule or tablet, do not crush, break, or chew it. Missed DoseIf you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. More InformationPrilosec is not suitable for you if you have only occasional heartburn, have one episode of heartburn a week or less, want immediate relief of heartburn. Before taking Prilosec notify your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you are taking. Do not start or stop any medicine without your doctor`s or pharmacist`s approval.
